Hi fellow bugmeister--

Yes, I tried drilling a couple of half-inch holes in the rear baffle, but it was of dubious value. It did indeed make the bike louder, but the sund quality was too harsh for my taste. It also did nothing to soften the gunshot-like backfires that I occasionally had (and which scared the crap out of my fellow riders). I'm much happier with the Supertrapp, even though it did cost over $200US. Many folks also seem to be happy with the Jardine, for around $150. There is also the MAC, available from Dennis Kirk for about $110. I haven't heard one on a Savage, but the one I had on my Honda CB400F worked well, sounded good, and held up well for 8 years. Hope this helps.
